Product Description
We manufacture and supply the Ethiopia Flag flag ready to fly on the top a flagpole in either hand sewn or digitally printed options.
We highly recommend hand sewn national flags as the preferred choice for your flag. Manufactured using Ministry of Defence approved 155gsm woven flag material, this fabric offers the best possible durability and has been used by the Navy and other military branches for many years.
Hand sewn Ethiopia Flag national flags are made to MoD & Flag Institute standard patterns by cutting panels of the required colours from a roll of fabric, before being sewn together by our skilled flagmakers to create the official Ethiopia Flag pattern. National flag designs with complex details will have a printed panel or badge added to the main field of the flag.
Dye-sublimated Ethiopia Flag national flags are created using our state-of-the-art textile print systems and woven polyester flag fabric in our UK manufacturing facility. Chosen for strength and durability, knitted polyester is an ideal choice for anybody looking for a good value national flag finished ready to fly from your flagpole.
The Ethiopia Flag national flag is finished by hand with a headband rope and toggle as standard, ready to attach directly to a flagpole. The three exposed sides of the flag are finished with a strong double hem and a triple sewn hem on the fly edge for extra durability.
Other finishes are available, please be sure to select the correct option for you or contact a member of our team for support.

Brief History
The first flag flown in Ethiopia was that of the Aussa Sultanate, the rulers of the area towards the end of the 16th Century. From the 17th Century red, yellow and green pennants were flown in the area.
The First official flag of Ethiopia was adopted in 1897; it features the green-yellow-red horizontal tricolour with the crowned Lion of Judah at the centre.
When Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I was overthrown in 1974, the tricolour flag was altered slightly. The crown was removed and Staff was replaced with a spear.
The lion was removed from the flag when The Coordinating Committee of the Armed Forces, Police and Territorial Army (Derg) ruled Ethiopia between 1974 and 1987.
When the Derg was broken up in 1987, Mengiistu Haile Mariam’s socialist People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia was formed. The tricolour’s proportions were elongated and a socialist emblem featured in the centre.
In 1991 the People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front defeated Mengiistu and the socialist emblem was removed.
The emblem of Ethiopia was added to the centre of the flag in 1996, originally a light blue field it was changed after eight months to dark blue.
Each colour on the flag has a specific meaning; the green is for land, yellow for peace, red for strength and the blue is for unity.
The Emblem of Ethiopia
The current Emblem of Ethiopia was adopted in 1996 and features a blue circle with a gold pentagram and five rays golden light.
