Denmark

Adopted in 1625, the flag of Denmark is assumed to be the oldest flag on earth. The pattern is said to be taken from a red battle flag bearing the white cross of Christianity in a nationalist tale that has origins from the 13th Century. In the legend, the Danish King Vlademar Sejr was leading his army in a losing battle when a red piece of material with a white cross fell from the sky. The King’s luck changed from this moment and his army won the battle. To tribute his good luck, this symbol then became associated as the flag of Denmark.
