Product Description
We manufacture and supply the Malawi Flag flag ready to fly on the top a flagpole in either hand sewn or digitally printed options.
We highly recommend hand sewn national flags as the preferred choice for your flag. Manufactured using Ministry of Defence approved 155gsm woven flag material, this fabric offers the best possible durability and has been used by the Navy and other military branches for many years.
Hand sewn Malawi Flag national flags are made to MoD & Flag Institute standard patterns by cutting panels of the required colours from a roll of fabric, before being sewn together by our skilled flagmakers to create the official Malawi Flag pattern. National flag designs with complex details will have a printed panel or badge added to the main field of the flag.
Dye-sublimated Malawi Flag national flags are created using our state-of-the-art textile print systems and woven polyester flag fabric in our UK manufacturing facility. Chosen for strength and durability, knitted polyester is an ideal choice for anybody looking for a good value national flag finished ready to fly from your flagpole.
The Malawi Flag national flag is finished by hand with a headband rope and toggle as standard, ready to attach directly to a flagpole. The three exposed sides of the flag are finished with a strong double hem and a triple sewn hem on the fly edge for extra durability.
Other finishes are available, please be sure to select the correct option for you or contact a member of our team for support.

Brief History
The first flag flown in the area was the flag of the British Central Africa Protectorate when Malawi was under administration of the British Empire in 1893. The flag was a British blue ensign with emblem in the centre right.
The name was changed to the Nyasaland Protectorate in 1907 and the emblem was changed on the flag to a cheetah on a rock with a rising sun.

The Flag of the Nyasaland Protectorate (1907 – 1964)
In 1953 Nyasaland joined with Rhodesia to become the self-governing British colony called The Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. The British blue ensign remained but the Coat of Arms changed; the cheetah was replaced with a red lion and the rock became a portion with black and white wavy lines.
Nyasaland gained independence in 1964 and a new flag and name was adopted. The flag of Malawi was a black-red-green horizontal tricolour with a red rising sun in the black band.

The Flag of Malawi (1964 – 2010)
In 2010 the flag was modified, the colours were moved to red-black-green with a white sun in the black band. After a mass objection to the new flag the first flag of Malawi was reinstated in 2012.
