The Design of the Yorkshire Flag
The famous Yorkshire flag features a white rose on a deep sky blue background. The white rose has been a symbol of Yorkshire since the Fourteenth century, when the first Duke of York used this image as a part of his heraldic badge. It has since been used to represent Yorkshire in the Seven Years War, also known as the War of the Roses between two neighbouring counties, Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Yorkshire Flag History
Despite the long history of the white rose representing Yorkshire, the flag itself was only designed as recently as the 1960s. In July 2008, the flag was registered by the British Flag Institute on request of the Yorkshire Ridings Society. Since then, the flag has proudly been displayed throughout the count
