This year the nation will pause to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee - and we’ve decided to answer all your questions on the topic, of course including where you can get your hands on a commemorative platinum jubilee flag for the festivities.
So, where can I buy a jubilee flag?
Flagmakers are proud to have produced two commemorative platinum jubilee flags to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in either a royal purple or platinum finish.
Now that you’ve got your flags sorted, we thought that we’d round up what is in store for the Queen’s jubilee celebrations, and how you can get involved.
When is the Platinum Jubilee?
Officially, the Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee on the 6th of February, and this date officially marked 70 years of service at the head of the British Monarchy.
As we know however, the Queen, who famously has two birthdays, loves a party and it is no different when it comes to anniversaries apparently…
The festivities are planned to last throughout 2022 culminating in a four day celebration from the 2nd - 5th of June.
So, not only do we have 70 years of service to thank Her Majesty for, but also two extra days of bank holiday, and we feel that it is only right to raise your glass and wave your new commemorative platinum jubilee flag to show our appreciation.
Why is the Platinum Jubilee significant?
Of course, the royal cynics may only find the platinum jubilee significant as it means that they will not be required in the office, however the significance of this particular anniversary is unprecedented.
The Queen is the first British monarch to reach this amazing milestone, and if you pardon the flag related pun, has been a fabric of the nation for as long as almost anyone can remember.
She has dedicated her whole life selflessly serving the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms, and the Commonwealth, and she is officially Britain’s longest serving monarch; the first to celebrate their Platinum Jubilee.
How do I get involved in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations?
As with every royal celebration, there are countless ceremonies, initiatives, and reveals planned by the palace to mark this unprecedented anniversary.
The plans range from a Platinum Pudding Competition with Mary Berry as a special guest judge, to the launch of an initiative called The Queen’s Canopy which invites the people across the United Kingdom to ‘plant a tree for the Jubilee’.
There will also be a ‘Trooping of the Colour’ at the Queen’s Birthday Parade on the 2nd of June; because it wouldn’t be a royal celebration without hundreds of immaculate horses on show. Tickets are available for the parade via ballot until the end of the month, however the BBC will also be showing wall to wall coverage of the celebrations all day.
As always, the festivities aren’t exclusive to events organised by the palace, so expect hundreds of street parties up and down the country where local communities will come together to eat Eton Mess and drink Pimms in the summer sunshine.
Is the Platinum Jubilee a bank holiday?
Yes, it is! The core Jubilee celebrations will be held over a four-day period from the 2nd to the 5th of June. The Queen’s press office has informed the British public that everyone is invited to join in with the celebrations, and as such, has declared a four-day national bank holiday for the festivities.
How many days off work for the Platinum Jubilee?
If, like most of us, you work the Monday-Friday grind, then you will be gifted with two days off work, meaning only a three day week, and a four-day weekend.
We could think of worse ways to start the month…
What is the Platinum Jubilee medal?
The Platinum Jubilee Medal is a special commemorative medal that is to be awarded to serving frontline members of the police, fire, emergency services, prison services, prison services and the Armed Forces as a token of the nations appreciated for all of their tireless work, but especially throughout the pandemic.
Platinum Jubilee commemorative flags at Flagmakers
Here at Flagmakers, you won’t be surprised to learn that we are somewhat specialists at making flags of all kinds, however we are especially proud to share the launch of our special platinum jubilee commemorative flags.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Flag is available in a range of sizes and materials and it is created following official emblem usage guidelines.
These limited edition flags are available in two colours; purple, and of course, platinum.
We don’t need to guess why we chose platinum for the Queen’s upcoming PLATINUM jubilee, however we did want to explain the reasoning behind the choice of purple.
Purple has forever been synonymous with royalty, power, and wealth and the origins behind this colour choice lie in the rarity and scarcity of the dye needed to produce purples - thus giving it its elite status.
You’ll be pleased to know that the cost of our purple flags are not any different to any other colour, so you can feel the power of purple without breaking the bank.
If you have any questions or would like to enquire about bulk or wholesale orders then you can get in touch with us here, and we’ll be happy to help.
We hope that whatever your plans are for the jubilee celebrations you have a great royal weekend.
